Sunday, the 20th of January was a special day in the life of the oldest Liberian Mandingo Association in the
USA, LIMANY. On this night, members and officials of Limany came together as one family celebrating the Sacrifice of Abraham known as Eid ul Ada. There were Abraham Turay, Moriken Kenneh, Ansumana Randolph-Jabateh, Mohammed S. Bility, Issa Fofana, Musa Kamara, Mohammed S. Kromah and many other members of Limany on the stage dancing as Massebe Kamara sang song of unity and peace. She dedicated a song in tribute to the Limany folks coming together and celebrating as one family.
For more than two years there had not been such an occasion within Limany in New York. That's why people were so excited to have been at this program celebrating peace and unity. While the Limany folks talked behind closed doors and were able to iron out thier differences, the peace making efforts were climaxed by the presence of the Liberian singer, Massebe Kamara. During the program, Limany presented Massebe Kamara with a certificate of appreciation for her effort in promoting the Mandingo culture through her music. This was the second of such certificate for the Liberian singer, the first being from the Millionaire Group of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Many in the audience consider Massebe Kamara as "Peace ambassador" since her coming to New York has coincided with the celebration of peace and unity among the unified body of Limany.
It was a beautiful scene seeing Ansumana Randolph-Jabateh, Abraham Turay, Moriken, and Mohammed Kromah sharing the stage in happiness. It showed that indeed unity is what we need as a community and the more we talk to each other, the more we are able to find common ground to work together for the betterment of our community.
According to Ansuamana Jabateh, "Family tree can bend but it can't break. Limany is one." The same sentiment was echoed by other members of the organization including Famod Konneh who headed the committee that planned and executed the program.
Also present at the occasion was the president of FEMAUSA, Mohammed Richmond Konneh. As one of those who have been involved in the peace efforts in New York, the FELMAUSA president said, "It has been more than two years since I attended a Limany function in New York. I am glad to be back here at this time to celebrate peace with all the people of Limany. This is a great example of us being able to resolve our differences as members of the same community and I hope others will look at Limany as a great example of resolving differences and forging ahead as a united community for progress." Reactions to Limany program in New York has been very positive. Many people spoken to from various states have expressed happiness about the coming together of Limany. To many of them, "This is a step in the right direction." They all congradulate the Limany folks for their coming together and celebrating peace and unity.
